The artist David Lüpschen_Jiar lives in Cologne. He works as a freelancer doing graphic design and illustration. After his basic studies in color design at the HWAK Hildesheim he switched to study communication design at the FH Düsseldorf. His studies focus on illustration and animation. David Lüpschen's works are strongly connected to graffiti culture. Since the 90s his works can be found in urban space. 2006 he had his first solo exhibition. Since then he has been on display in various galleries. In 2007 he founded the project “Lichtfaktor” with Marcel Panne - known as VJ Sehvermögen (more infos at: www.lichtfaktor.eu). The diversity of his art work is the result of the various materials, techniques and media he uses. Analogue and digital are the capital of his creativity output which covers video animation, installations and light writing.
David Lüpschen is mainly inspired by ordinary activities like going to the zoo, shopping or flea markets, but also by his various work travels to cities like New York, Prague, Vienna, London, Budapest, Paris, Brussels... His art shows custom created characters – painted as a combination of photorealism, hand drawn sketches, drawings and graphical elements. Transparency, overlays, lines and watered down color are the key visual elements of his drawings. He experiments with aerosol cans, markers, watercolor, silk screen printing and fabric to broaden his creativity. He prefers black and white for his drawings and uses colors to emphasis his art work.
