PREFACE OF BLÜTEZEIT
Adrenalin, Faith, Doubt, Optimism...
Emotional chaos - yet complete control. The security guard has taken his sensor and duck pass the camera.
Now!
Firstlines, Fill In, Background, 3D's, Outlines. Final touches with highlights and elements. Done! 15 minutes and the train is decorated. Camera flashes. Mediocre nighttime photographs. Out of the tunnel. The smell of spray paint follows you to the next station. Leave the scene of the crime. Two hours of rest and wait until the trains start rolling again. Fuck..., empty trip ...taken out of traffic. No good pictures.
All that remains is the memory of one of many missions. Fatigue kicks in. Massive energy loss and emotional drainage. For what? Is it the addiction? So many question. So few answers.
Pure urbanity. Locations all over the world. Rediscover the World, get to know people and their cultures. A Network developes. The clashing of different styles. Means of conveyance, trains. The league of champions. Crime and identity as an elemental part of graffiti-art. Fame. The crew, a second family.
This is what drives me. The scope and the controversial aspects of this lifestyle. So many individuals. So much hate. So much love. So much passion. So much anonymity combined with so much talkativeness. Adventures more gripping than Indiana Jones's. Bonds stronger than the A-Team's. Taking hourlong trips, only to press down on the cap for a few minutes. In the freezing cold or boiling heat. Thornbushes and barbed wire fences. Risking incarceration and hospital visits. All that for a few letters on rolling steel.
All of these aspects have influenced me heavily and have brought me to develop a completely new value system. My time of prosperity started at the age of 16.
To hold capture something from this secretive subculture. Authentic pictures of and with authentic protagonists. To mediate emotions. To be in the middle of it. A documentation, not from a photographers point of view, but through the eyes of a writer. This was my objective for this project.
One love. Nils Müller
